So you have decided to take up your business to the next stage in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq by making it official and setting up your own company. Here are the steps needed to be taken in order to do so

  • You first need to pick a name for your company, which is usually the most challenging part as most names that you can think of are already taken
  • When thinking of names, you also need to take into account that the names need to be in Kurdish, Arabic, or English and need to have a meaning. Numbers are also not allowed

  • You can then tell your lawyer to do some basic research to see if your desired name is taken or not.

  • Meanwhile, you need to get your biometric report from the government, where you need to take your identification and attend one of their offices which will take around 10-15 minutes to get your biometric details taken. This is to ensure that both the owner(s) and general director are not working for the public sector.

  • After you have selected your desired name, you can submit your application online by visiting this link. You also need to state what type of services your company will provide, for example general trading or travel & tourism, you also need to decide who will be the shareholders, and who will be the appointed general director

  • Then you submit the application and after a day or two you will get a reply whether the name is accepted or not, along with the fact if any other information is incorrect

  • After the online application is accepted, you will then provide a PoA to your lawyer to finalize the application in person which costs around $17

  • You will pay then some fees that reach $250

  • You will then get your company certificate
